Ask Dr. Gourmet

Do you have any suggestions for sources of sprouts?

I just found your website and am so excited!

Over the past 2.5 years, I have lost 90 lbs. I have done it alone, with Weight Watchers and with Dr. Dillon at the University of Iowa Weight Loss Clinic. I still have 40 - 50 lbs to go. I am in quest of new flavors! I have tried broccoli sprouts as well as alfalfa and onion sprouts. Tasty! I used to sprout alfalfa years ago but would like to try other veggies. I can only find organic seeds in packets of 50 - 100 seeds and that will not even twinge one taste bud. Do you have any suggestions? I am searching the internet but have not, yet, found a supplier.

Congratulations on your work at being healthier! Good job.

Like you, I love sprouts. I don't have time to sprout myself, but one of the first restaurants that I worked in was a vegetarian restaurant where we made our own alfalfa sprouts by the 5 gallon bucketful. It's so easy and there's a lot of variety, as you say, since you can sprout almost any seed.

Here are a few sites I found that specialize in sprouting:

sprouting.com
