Ask Dr. Gourmet

Is macaroni & cheese healthy?

I have a question, what about macaroni & cheese. Have you done any research, since it's so much out there? I would like to know if it is healthy because the kids love it.

Dr. Gourmet Says...

Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and Cheese can be great for you and you are right - kids love it.

Some of it isn't so great, though, with a lot of artificial chemicals and flavorings. Many of the boxed products also use pastas made with white flour, which isn't the best choice.

Making your own Mac & Cheese is the best option, and here are some great recipes for healthy Mac & Cheese:

Creamy Mac & Cheese
Salmon Mac and Cheese
Baked Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese
Cauliflower Mac and Cheese
Pepperoni Pizza Mac and Cheese
Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese
Roasted Veggie Mac and Cheese
Smokey Shrimp Mac & Cheese
Pimento Mac and Cheese
Quickie Cheeseburger Mac
